Early Years Vision
We provide all children with a safe, positive and vibrant environment, through which they can imagine, create and explore experiences and opportunities. We will nurture and support children in becoming happy, confident and resilient learners.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is where our children begin their educational journey through explorative play which stimulates their natural curiosity of the world around them. We believe that providing them with a solid foundation will enable them to become successful learners for the rest of their journey.
All areas of learning are predominantly taught through play based activities across the EYFS with specific key groups to teach early reading and mathematics. We use the development matters framework to focus our teaching but ultimately will teach children a skill and then provide opportunities for them to apply their learning through play-based activities. All of our activities are language enriched and are carefully planned to meet our children’s needs through Cornerstones Curriculum Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs).
We begin teaching early reading in EYFS placing great emphasis on developing children’s listening and attention skills and encourage them to tune in to sounds before they even look at letters. Once children are secure we then follow the ‘Letters and Sounds’ programme of study teaching children sounds for letters and play a variety of games and activities to help children blend these sounds together for reading.
We have an ‘open-door’ policy across the EYFS which means that children can access both indoor and outdoor provision at their will (weather dependent). Our outdoor environment provides opportunities for children to develop the same skills as our indoor provision meaning that they can take their learning wherever they wish! We promote a love of learning through play.
