Adswood Primary School

Enjoy, Believe, Achieve

At Adswood Primary School, we believe that when parents are familiar with the school’s homework policy, they will be able to support their child in doing her/his homework and have a real impact on their child’s learning, progress, achievement and attainment. The reasons we set homework are to:

  • Encourage home / school partnership

  • To involve parents in their child’s learning

  • Help parents to be clear about the purpose of homework

  • Give parents an idea of what homework a child is expected to complete

  • Support children’s learning with opportunities for the child to recall and apply what s/he has learned in school

  • Establish a regular programme of homework so that everyone knows what to expect each week

Homework tasks

In nursery suitable reading books / key words will be sent home weekly or on request from parents.

In Reception class, 2 reading books including a ‘Sign & Shine’ (Key Words) / individual colour banded reading book and/or list of key words will be sent home each week.

In years 5 – 6, 2 pieces of homework will be sent home on a Friday and returned on a Wednesday.
